Where Thirteen Schools Became One
Lakeville grew slowly and locally before it grew as a town. Thirteen one-room schoolhouses served Union Township through the 1890s; only in 1898 did they consolidate into a single two-story elementary school in Lakeville, with the Old Lakeville High School following in 1931 and earning a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Early-1900s Footings, Modern Stress
Foundation conditions in Lakeville often trace back to the same building wave that produced the 1898 elementary school and the 1931 Old Lakeville High School -- houses from that era were built on Union Township soil using early-1900s methods, which behave differently under settlement stress than a modern poured foundation.
